My iPhone 3.0 hardware hopes

I think it wouldn’t be crazy to actually predict a faster CPU and more RAM for the next revision of the iPhone. The current hardware is two years old, ancient in the tech world, and could use some more wiggle room for developers (especially game developers).

What I hope to see is several versions of the iPhone as it becomes more and more of a computer, an iPhone and an iPhone Pro. The iPhone Pro would have a faster CPU and more RAM with a finish more inline with the new unibody design whereas the normal iPhone would keep the current body.

The original iPhone’s build was so much more solid and had a much nicer feel to it, so I’d love to see a return to an aluminum casing even if it’s at a premium price.

The two new CPU’s would feature 6XX MHz and 8XXMHz ARM processors and be underclockable from the OS though a new power management scheme. Having software based power schemas would make the iPhone’s battery life much more manageable instead of independently having to disable: GPS, 3G, WiFi, or possibly underclocking.

I don’t think that any of these hopes are unreasonable but I would be shocked if they came to fruition. Are there any features you’d like to see in the new hardware?
