I just went back and saw the lenses used for the 5D MKII. ONe of the ones used was a custom built 7.5mm lens. 7.5mm!! I really wonder what the lines are like on something like that. It’s hard for me to imagine what a non-fisheye 7.5mm lens would be like.
I love me my wide angles and have never had the chance to shoot with anything wider then 18mm. Not even a fisheye.
The news of the 5D MKII and 50D are really making me drool over what’s out there. It also makes me cry at the weight of my wallet.
The 5D MKII camera produces the best stills in low light that I’ve ever seen - what you can see with you eye in the worst light (such as sodium-vapor street lights at 3 a.m. in Brooklyn) - this camera can capture it with ease.
It produces the best video in low light that I’ve ever seen - at 1080p. A top commercial film editor who who regularly edits RED camera footage - and has seen the raw footage from the 5D MKII - says the 5D MKII is “far superior to the RED camera” in terms of low light performance…
It has the potential to change our industry.
Vincent Laforet on the new Canon 5D MKII. He likes it. A lot. And so do I. I want one now.
Don’t fucking post this shit. I don’t have the cash to buy something like this.
jstn:
On top of the 5D Mk II announcement, there’s also a 50mm f/0.95 Aspherical from Leica ($11k), Carl Zeiss’ interesting 35mm lenses now in Canon mount, and a new 24mm f/1.4L from the mothership. Some other things I hadn’t noticed yet about the new 5D while I was freaking out this morning:
- viewfinder coverage bumped to 98%
- ISO now shown in the viewfinder (25600 max!)
- “live view” is 30fps and allows silent shooting
- the sensor is entirely new (not from the 1Ds Mk III)
I can only drool over such things, especially the Leica lens.
