Initial impressions of The Slip:
This album is good but not great, in fact there aren’t really any songs on this album that would qualify as good as the top songs on other albums. I think part of the reason that this release was free was that it was not of similar quality to the other NIN albums. Even still, a lower quality NIN is better then most of the other music out there. If you like NIN then definitely get this (not that there’s any reason not to get it) but this wont change your mind if you weren’t a NIN fan before.

I think free has been very important for a long time… acknowledge what the marketplace is already showing us: free exists whether you want to acknowledge it or not. Let’s acknowledge that, use it and do something with it.

Reznor is giving away his new album The Slip with no option to pay for it at all. Once more he’s giving it away in MP3, FLAC, Apple Lossless, and High Def WAV.

Nine Inch Nails - Discipline

New track!

Wow this is really quite good. I cant wait for this album to come out. I liked year zero but it was a little harsh a sound. this is great, back to his with teeth style.

Nine Inch Nails .:. Sin

From his first real album this is a great song. While it has some of that annoying 80’s synth sound It’s amazing to see how long he’s had such a unique and great ear for music. Even if you’re not a NIN fan I’d suggest at least giving this a try.

A week after releasing his four-volume instrumental work “Ghosts I-IV” through his Web site, Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor is reporting that he amassed more than $1.6 million in orders and downloads.

Considering this wasnt even a real album thats a pretty damn good show of how this model can work for bigger bands. I don’t think that many small artists would sell many $75 and $300 versions though.

Nine Inch Nails - The Great Destroyer (modwheelmood remix)

This comes off the Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D cd which is a compilation of fan remixes of the latest (before yesterday) album from NIN, Year Zero. What’s really cool about this, aside from the quality, is that Trent Reznor realeased GarageBand files for each of the Year Zero songs to the public for this project and created a page where people could share their creations: (http://remix.nin.com).
