I may give digg another try to see how this is. I started really not liking digg a bit ago, the signal to noise ratio was just unacceptable for my attention. If this doesn’t work out then I think it’ll more firm my idea that social powered sites are much better for smaller sized communities, while still being large enough to come up with new content.

zoya: honestly, I go through so much milk. it’s all I drink. I love a tall glass of milk; I love a nice cup of milk; I drink it out of the carton. I drink about a gallon of milk a week. sometimes I get Stonybrook, sometimes I get Ronnybrook from the farmers’ market, but mostly I drink Organic Valley skim milk. I boycott Horizon because they use Comic Sans on their packaging. I drink a lot of...

Wii Fit
jeralyndwile: Anyways, it struck me as funny how we find these things (Xbox, Wii, playstation, etc.) so much fun when there is really NO point to doing them. There is absolutely nothing gained from playing Mario, but millions of people do it everyday. It’s just interesting I guess. Well first of all, since when is having fun useless? Second of all many video games actually provide good problem...

War, Inc. mini review.
War, Inc. is what I thought was a spiritual successor to Grosse Point Blank, all the same actors are involved and Cusack is an assassin. What I got was a poor attempt at a Mel Brooks type film. It’s an over the top comedy that tries to take political jabs at the war, media, government, etc. While I admit I only watched about 1/4th of the movie I found the satire to be uninteresting and...

Ridiculous
I can’t believe you can’t make custom smart bookmarks that will filter by tag. That just seems crazy to me. You can do all sorts of stuff with custom smart bookmarks but not find by tag. Hopefully this will be added soon. Here’s the bug report for this, I can’t tell if it’s being worked on or not.

A nice extension for stopping the auto-play “feature” of youtube. When you go to a video on youtube.com it won’t auto-play when the page loads.

Question:
talby: Is it too late to ask what in the heck is EuroCup?  I swear I have not heard about it before this year. It’s like the World Cup but on the years of the summer, rather then winter, Olympics. Also it only involves European countries. Yeah, and it’s not called the “EuroCup” either!  It’s the European Championships. And England didnt even qualify :P

marco: Amazon EC2’s disk performance is disappointing, even with the Large Instance’s advertised “High” I/O performance. It’s fine for running webservers and anything that’s mostly CPU-bound, but it can’t keep up as a MySQL slave on a frequently-updated database. Dont know that much about it, but wouldnt SimpleDB be more designed for that?

This laptop looks pretty amazing, if I were in need of an ultralight I’d probably get this one. At $2100 it’s actually a pretty reasonable price. I really like the idea of putting the ethernet port on the power brick, also having an ESATA/USB port.

djgroovyslug: ashers: sector19: kiamatthews: pterodactyls: Started this today. Bingo arms, you’re on notice! BRING IT. My arms are prematurely trembling just thinking about this, but I figure I can eventually do pretty well given that I am the only person in my office who can change the water cooler bottles. I’m tired of being a 90 pound weakling and getting sand kicked in my face by...

Just switched to MediaTemple from 1&1
Ah like it. Ah like it allot. (Much faster, more control, less restrictions [somewhat redundant, but whatev], cheaper, nicer admin interface, better support… I could go on all day) Check it out! Seems nice, but for a similarly configured slicehost virtual server it costs $20/month (vs $50). Given you get 1/10th the transfer and 1/2 the storage, but I find you RARELY get the transfer...

Think about it this way: if there were a switch that Bill Gates could have thrown to kill a given app on every Windows machine out there some Wednesday morning, the day after Napster is invented in 2000, I would be you anything that the content industry would go to the courts and say, “We want an emergency injunction. We want the software shut down.” And the court, upon seeing that...

Good interview on TDS tonight
Aside from the fact that Lara Logan is incredibly hot, she provided a great interview with Jon Stewart tonight. I’ll post a video as soon as Comedy Central puts it up but it reruns constantly You know I was asked once: “Do you feel responsible for the American public having a bad view—a negative view of the war in Iraq?” And I looked at the reporter and I said:...

Marco: Tal Atlas: United is starting to offer ipod docks on their international flights. They will even be able to play video though the built in screens. This is exactly why the entire industry needs to settle on a standard. Or at the very least apple needs to open their dock standard to anyone. What entire industry? The entire industry of portable audio players that also sometimes...

Wesley Sneijder’s goal on the French was a thing of beauty. I can’t recall seeing a better goal live. The Dutch coach was really a genius for making the substitutions for more offensive players when his club was being pressed by the French. van Nistelrooij’s play on the third Dutch goal was also simply incredible. The Dutch really seem like the team to beat, I imagine...

NBC's Tim Russert dead at 58 →
election08: Tim Russert died today at the age of 58. He apparently had a sudden heart attack while at work. Russert was the NBC News Washington bureau chief and moderator of ‘Meet the Press’. He is survived by his wife Maureen Orth and a son Luke. Our thoughts go out to his family. Holy crap, this is pretty shocking and sad.

A nifty way to take web screenshots for tumblr or anything else. While Picnik doesn’t have tumblr support directly you can email the photo to tumblr to post it. I’m not sure if tagging works with email yet (doubt it) but I don’t know of a better solution for windows. Download the extension here.
